Hoodoo

What is Hoodoo

Hoodoo is an African American botanical practice of healing that's also known as Rootwork or Conjure. Hoodoo as a system of folk magic is not a religion, though a practitioner is allowed to use herbs, oils, different dust, crystals, charming of objects, and ancestor veneration. Practitioners also takes helps from saints and spirits. It is a magical journey where you conquer positive demands.

Hoodoo developed primarily within African American communities in the Southern United States, blending African traditions with Native American and European practices. Hoodoo is a spiritual religious tradition created by enslaved African Americans in the United States. Many of these Central and West African religious practices were brought to North America during the transatlantic slave trade. Enslaved Africans were often forced to become Christians upon arrival in North America. The synchronization of African practices with the Christian religion created Hoodoo among enslaved African Americans.

Origin of Hoodoo
Hoodoo Vs Voodoo

While both Hoodoo and Voodoo have African roots, the key difference is that Voodoo is considered a religion with a structured hierarchy and specific deities (called Loa), while Hoodoo is more of a collection of magical practices with a focus on folk magic, often incorporating elements from African, Native American, and European traditions, and not necessarily tied to a single organized religion; essentially, Voodoo is a religion, while Hoodoo is a magical practice.
